Angel Franco is inspired by the legendary Ai Apaec, the most revered of Moche deities. The mask-like image usually adorned the breastplates of high-ranking Inca functionaries. They had them throughout their lives and were buried with them. The mask was characterized by slanted eyes, ear muffs and four pendants around the neck. Franco works with galvanized bronze and copper as he creates contrasts of color and texture in the crafting of this plate.
