Representing the Maya rain god, Chac, a stylized serpent opens its jaws and a human head emerges. Elisa Camarena replicates a stone sculpture from the west stairway of the Pyramid of the Magician at Uxmal. According to Maya texts, one must die in the jaws of the god in order to be born to a new life, which follows initiation. Camarena presents the sculpture on a pinewood base.
