Woven by hand, this extraordinary hammock evokes a plantation of coffee trees. Rich handloomed textures create bands of greens and and brown. The comfortable hammock is suspended by maguey fiber cords from iron rings. Women from the Ixoq Ajkeem Association create the fabric on backstrap looms, and color it with natural dyes. The green is derived from palo de pito, the brown from coffee leaves and the bark of the avocado tree. Jaspe patterns are achieved by tie dying the threads prior to weaving. Because organic dyes are used, colors may vary slightly.
