For Gulam Rasool, soapstone's natural grain evokes an elephant's wrinkled hide. He carves this box by hand in the shape of three elephants, painting more pachyderms on the sides. Silken caps and blankets identify them as the king's own animals. The elongated box is designed to hold incense sticks, with perforations to let the fragrance perfume the room. Three holes at one end are designed to hold the sticks when burning.
