Robert Nortey crafts this mask in the tradition of the Lulua (also Bena Lulua) people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They believe the mask will protect them against evil spirits. Nortey carves the sese wood mask by hand, paint it brown and adorns it with embossed aluminum and brass.
