Rich crimson reveals a tenuous outline beneath delicate lotus buds. Parinya Nanjai depicts the Buddhapada, or footprint of Buddha. When Buddha stepped back onto earth after reaching enlightenment, his feet made an imprint where he stepped, the first and most honored of these imprints being the supposed imprint atop Adam's Peak in Ceylon. These footprints are venerated in all Buddhist countries. The painting arrives in a frame of bamboo and teakwood.
