Butterflies flutter around the serene image of Buddha in purple hues - the color of spirituality and mysticism. Tanachai Ekuruchaitep works with acrylics to honor the great spiritual teacher through his art. The Thai artist is inspired by the portrayal of Buddha during the Sukhothai period (1238 to 1583), which was influenced by Sri Lankan monks. The Buddha images of this era featured such distinguishing characteristics as a flame over the head which itself was covered with finely curled hair. The oval face has high curving eyebrows, a hooked nose, a downward gaze, and a gentle smiling expression.
