Transforming shadows, colors blending into one another, the inevitability of change inspires this painting by Ghana's Akwele Suma. Thinking of the political situations of Zimbabwe and Kenya of 2007, her composition is a dynamic representation of time and change. Textures add to the artist's theme, and she paints with acrylics over a canvas that was primed twice and left out in the open air for 24 hours exposed to the elements. She applies six inches of color, for which she uses a traditional African comb to spread throughout the canvas.
