Intriguing textures traverse hills that mirror the shapes of pyramids. Jaime Barrera presents a pair of canvases inspired by the low hills of the Yucatán peninsula. Streaked by copper, the earthen tones open to swathes of pale beige that represent the powdery sands of the coast and limestone formations of the interior. Applications of sand and corrugated cardboard enhance the cryptic paintings, part of Barrera's Mayaland 2004 series. Titled Tierra convulsa in Spanish.
