Ornate line traces a foot beneath delicate lotus buds. Parinya Nanjai depicts the Buddhapada, or footprint of Buddha. Beautifully stylized with intricately patterned symmetry, this schematized design shows all the toes to be of equal length. When Buddha stepped back onto earth after reaching enlightenment, his feet made an imprint where he stepped, the first and most honored of these imprints being the supposed imprint atop Adam's Peak in Ceylon. These footprints are venerated in all Buddhist countries. The work arrives in a frame of rain tree wood.
