The historic paintings in Cacaxtla (Tlaxcala) inspire Angel Cerón in the crafting of this sculpture of an eagle warrior. Believed to channel the courage and might of the eagle, the warrior was highly revered by the Tlaxcalteca people of 600-950 A.D. The sculpture portrays the warrior wearing the eagle's talons on the feet, and the head as a fabulous headdress. He holds a ceremonial staff with serpent heads related to Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent deity. Working with yellow clay ceramic, Cerón creates a rugged sculpture of infinite details.
