Women from the Ixil Maya community share their historic textiles through the Cotzal Artisan Cooperative. Working on the back strap loom, they weave this cotton table runner in a fresh hunter green hue and include images that represent the legacy of their Maya ancestors. These include the deer, symbol of freedom, and the milpa (corn), symbolizing the beauty of our natural environment. The bird, known as Tzichin, is believed to attract riches. Arrows represent the movement of the wind as well as of the universe. They converge into an 'x' to represent the four cardinal points, as well as the four elements.
